My opinion of that character: AMMMIII!! <3 <3 <3 She's so great!! Manga, 90's anime, PGSM, Crystal... she's great in all of them. (Though I have a very special place in my heart for PGSM!Ami because she kept breaking my heart. Constantly.)
My favorite canon thing about that character: That time she used her little supercomputer to break that illusion-making gem right before she died in the Classic arc of the 90's anime.
My least favorite canon thing about that character: I do not care for Ami/Jadeite. I will never care for Ami/Jadeite.
My favorite headcanon(s) for that character: hmmm, I can't... think of anything? Weird, you'd think I pick up at least one... I guess her having a crush on Makoto?
My least favorite headcanon(s) about that character: Again, I guess i can't think of anything? I don't really... retain those... I guess whatever people think she's the weakest or she doesn't have anything to contribute? I literally have never seen anyone like that that I can remember...
Three headcanons I have about that character: - Got a bunch of offers to skip grades in school, but besides, y'know, wanting to be in the same grade as her friends... she doesn't want to skip any sort of exam/test/etc. At all.
- In Crystal Tokyo, she has a set of labs dedicated for her use.
- PGSM-related, but: it takes years, but she & Naru develop an unsteady friendship.

My least favorite canon thing about that character: ALL OF THE SWORDS THAT HAVE STABBED HER.
My favorite headcanon(s) for that character: ... What would even count as a headcanon?? That she has a happier life outside of Ohtori Academy, I guess? She finds Utena??
My least favorite headcanon(s) about that character: I'm going to hunt down anyone who watches Utena that thinks it's all Anthy's fault for sport.
Three headcanons I have about that character: - Takes care of so many animals outside of Ohtori Academy.
- Finds it hard to re-acclimate herself to, y'know, life outside of Ohtori Academy. Will never go back.
- Starts a vegetable garden.

Oh, nice!! I don't know if I have many coherent thoughts about here, but

My opinion of that character: ♥ ______ ♥ I love mean, angry, vengeful girls. Especially like that she initially responds to all of her trauma by wanting to burn the world down.
My favorite canon thing about that character: She's the first one of the two to catch on to Starline's bullshit.
My least favorite canon thing about that character: Stole Whisper's friends :<
My favorite headcanon(s) for that character: I don't really see that many headcanons about her??... I guess the general consensus that she's not straight?
My least favorite headcanon(s) about that character: I guess anything suggesting she'd ever completely settle down?
Three headcanons I have about that character: - transfem, even before her life as Surge started
- likes to stand in thunderstorms & get struck by bolts of lightning to charge up/feel powerful
- deeply despises ASMR

I have a similar core reason for liking her. Mean, imperfect victims who lash out erratically have always been compelling to me. Plus the whole having her past stolen from her, and being deceived by authority figures, it reminds me of a lot of my favorite arcs in Transformers.

I don't have strong opinions on gender headcanons, but if she is transfem, before Starline all the way. I honestly can never get behind headcanons that Surge had gender-affirming surgeries under Starline. The guy clearly did not give a damn about her well-being, or her ability to consent in any capacity. Especially given he would literally mind-wipe her whenever she showed sufficiently strong disagreement. Like I feel like "mad doctor who uses patient for his own ends" is a kind of bad representation of a system that already catches a lot of flak.

That thunderstorm thing would make for a hilarious fanfic premise. If she can't attract lightning naturally, or if it's difficult, she might go to extreme measures to try to get that next hit (with Kit dutifully helping her, even if he gets concerned at times).

I have a related headcanon to that, even if it's not exactly the same. I like the idea that after she gets used to her powers, she prefers some sources of electricity over others. Like you'd think she'd be able to taste the electric current with how she is borderline grossed out by some sources. She would still put up with it for the power, but she would make her disgust clear. (Have not determined what those sources are, as I don't know what might lead to those differences, but I think it would be a funny thing for her to care about, and Kit to have to witness.)
