bluapapilio: rin and suguro from blue exorcist (aoeku sugurin)

According to the wiki, chapter 69-99 covers this arc, I've seen episode 1 of the arc in the anime so shouldn't take long to catch up.

Chapter 68: Is it really so unclear to everyone that Yukio's going through something serious?

Bathhouse fanservice. Standard "bigger boobs are better" propaganda. It's good to see Shiemi and Kamiki getting along so well though.

Aand it even comes with an attempted peeking moment. Two shounen in a row with this frickin' content, both female authors.

What exactly was Mephisto expecting?!

Chapter 69: Gotta wonder if Arthur is always so emotional or it's just around Mephisto.

Shiemi notices something's up with Yukio, Rin is jealous again but agrees.

Meanwhile Yukio finds an abandoned building, guess he's going to train and try to become stronger than Rin. I don't think it's a bad thing he wants to become stronger but the probably is he's mentally 'weak'. He needs to work through that too.

Chapter 70: Nice conversation between Kamiki and Suguro. Suguro is still messed up from Shima and Kamiki says she feels oddly refreshed now that she's lost everything, and wants to be an exorcist more than ever.

The students have to graduate in a month, and Lewin the demon summoner (what a showoff~) from Arc Knights will be a cram school teacher.

Lmao so many people came to his class, a mix of actual students, observers and adults who want to study from him.

I think once Bon gets past his rigid thinking/teachings about summoning he can become a real beast.

I understand Lewin when he says "I don't have any great ambition, I just love this world". That's why he always go so hard with everything, but yet he has the control to calm everything down in an instant. If I could do what he does I'd feel the same way.

+ Now there's daylight again and I've riffled through it plenty, here's my favorite cards from the Curious Travels Tarot.

You can't at all see the pearlescent shimmer the cardstock is infused with, but it is beautiful. Also this is a Claudia deck to me (I am not responsible for the connections my blender brain makes when I have a hyper fixation).

Spent last night going through my decks and if I see the opportunity to do so locally, there's a bunch of oracles and one tarot that just didn't work for me and I'd love to rehome. Very grumpy the one alternative shop that opened in town barely lasted a few months. Flip side my wish list has grown massive, and with some very much not mass market wants. Especially the Motherwitch Oracle, and both Wisdom of the Divine Feminine/Wisdom of the Shadow + workbook, and the Reclaim Oracle seems to align strongly with the kind of work I'd like to do.

For tarot decks there's less than a handful of strong wants, but it's not like my current decks can't cover that need. I'm really just being greedy there. (gotta keep reminding myself of that: girl your needs are MET). But also, so many fandom decks are happening. The Dune one already ambushed me.

Anyways, linkspam of Ew Gross/Boo Hiss? Yes?

+ AIs can’t stop recommending nuclear strikes in war game simulations. (this is paywalled)
Leading AIs from OpenAI, Anthropic and Google opted to use nuclear weapons in simulated war games in 95 per cent of cases.

+ AI data centre growth could put UK net zero targets under fresh pressure.
...how 140 data centres are currently seeking grid connections with a combined peak demand of 50GW. That figure is striking because it is higher than Britain’s recent peak electricity demand of 45GW.

I know there's a very big queue of centres wanting to get built here as well. As if electricity isn't extravagantly expensive as is.

+ Oh hey, a somewhat cheerful one! 'Breweries using AI could put artists out of work'.
Following conversations with the Free Trade Inn, in Ouseburn, the two venues came together to announce on social media they would no longer be accepting AI art, including on bottles and pump clips, in order to try to protect local artists from losing out on work.

I really do need 2026 to be the year the bubble goes POP.

Good Boy

Good Boy is an adaptation of a super creepy urban legend that takes about three or four minutes to play. You take on the role of a young man preparing to turn in for the night, and you can explore and interact with everything in his one-room apartment. For good measure, you can pet the dog playing with a tennis ball on his bed as many times as you like before going to sleep.

In the middle of the night, the man wakes up to a strange scratching at the door that doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon. Rest assured that nothing bad happens to the dog, but the man might not be so lucky. I’m familiar with the story this game is based on, but the ending still managed to get me. Very nicely done.

Cassette Boy
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2334330/CASSETTE_BOY/

Cassette Boy is an isometric Zeldalike adventure game with Game Boy style retro graphics. It’s like a combination between Tunic (in its isometric Zelda-ness) and Fez, in that you can freely switch the perspective at 90-degree angles.

The conceit of solving spatial puzzles by making objects “disappear” through perspective shifts is a neat idea, I guess, but I ended up returning this game for a refund.

++ I only vaguely follow the Olympics, as in only the sport events I'm interested in. For the winter Olympics it's figure skating. Because of this, I kinda got myself caught up with the sensation of Alysa Liu and her truly inspiring story and the outcome of her winning gold simply by just being herself, returning back to the sport after deciding retire a couple years prior and doing so on her own terms, and having passion for what she loves and having fun. For all the technical and professional elements of the sports competition, the pure joy and confidence in what she was doing is what most of all take away when watching programs like that. Her performances, her general attitude about life, as well as her kindness, support and excitement towards her fellow competitors, it was quite infectious and it's great to see something this positive and uplifting come out of the Olympics.

++ An official music video was released by the cast of A/B/O Desire for "Master of Desire", the drama's theme song. I literally was all chin!hands watching it! (✿◠‿◠) The video itself is visually stunning, and just seeing them all together for this and with them paired off with their respective couples just made me so happy, specifically that of Gao Tu/Shen Wenlang. Anything with them, please, I need more little itty bitty crumbs of those two!

++ Girls Like Girls is an upcoming film by Hayley Kiyoko, adapted from a book she had wrote that is titled and based off of her iconic 2015 song/music video of the same name. I wasn't aware that she had written a novel nor that this film was in the works at all, but that makes this discovery so much more amazing for me. I do remember back when the video music was released that people were saying that it could be its own story in itself, so, whether or not this was taken into account at the time, I like that Hayley wanted to take a step further with her own creation.

I worry that with a lot of these Team 8 entries, we are simply reiterating the same facts over and over again, but I really want to treat the stories of each of these girls as special and individual, so I don't care. If I have to repeat myself, I have to repeat myself, and with that said, Yaguchi Moka passed AKB48's Team 8 auditions and joined the group alongside Abe Mei, Okabe Rin, Okubora Chinatsu, Nagano Serika, Fujimura Natsuki, Onishi Momoka, Kuranoo Narumi, Shitao Miu, Cho Kurena, Hamamatsu Riona, Fukuchi Rena, Honda Hitomi, Yokomichi Yuri, the other Yokoyama Yui, Yoshino Miyu, Oda Erina, Oguri Yui, Yoshikawa Nanase, Hayasaka Tsumugi, and Hirose Natsuki, debuting in the SKE48 theatre performance of PARTY ga Hajumaru yo in 2014. Already highly thought of, Moka appeared with her peers in the opening number, Skirt, Hirari, and also Hoshi no Ondo alongside Nanase and Natsuki.

With the release of 47 no Suteki na Machi e on the B side of Kokoro no Placard in 2015, Team 8, with Moka amongst them, set out on tour, performing in a number of prefectures, not least of all her home ground of Miyazaki. Throughout this period, Moka and Team 8 were propping up the B sides of almost every AKB release, joining Tsumugi by making it as far Teacher Teacher before her graduation. I had stepped back at this point in time, but I can't help but wonder what these days must have been like for newer fans at the time, especially those brought in by the nationwide tour. It must have felt like there were two AKBs at this time, the "underground idols" doing all the hard work touring and actually being "idols you can meet," and, in contrast, AKB the institution, what remained of the Kami 7 and the golden age. This conflict can be seen in the results of the general election, for which Moka failed to rank each year of her time in the group right up until her final year when, like any sensible person, she chose not to participate.

From the age of three, Moka had been studying ballet, and whilst idols represent a very different kind of dance, I think it's obvious that, unspoken, she was part of the changing trend in the idol industry and AKB itself that saw the group pivot towards a more complex focus on dance than previous generations. Being an idol often implies having a number of talents, yet dance has become so integral to the identity of the medium, partly following the explosion of the Hallyu Wave, that I cannot fault management for wanting to make use of the inordinate number of trained girls that came of age and turned up at auditions during these years.

In 2017, as with other members of Team 8, Moka was afforded a concurrent position, joining fellow Team 8 member Yokoyama Yui over in Team K. Unlike Yoko-chan, however, Moka did not stay. Lasting almost a year, her graduation arrived in November 2018, this self-described flirty girl desperate to lessen the divide between fans and members finally heading out into adulthood and leaving her former teammates behind.

Like Nanase, like many members of Team 8, Moka isn't the kind of girl that gets invited back for reunions and anniversary, but also like those former teammates of hers, Yaguchi Moka was one of the girls who brought AKB48 shouting and dancing into where it is now, a place where anniversaries and reunions can be celebrated.

Moka!

Thumbs Up to everyone who stopped by to let me know what you thought of my story (and if you want to read it, go back to yesterday). It's helpful. It helps the story form. It's a big week for me writing wise. I have two major open calls that open Saturday and I am set. I'm also trying to make a better record of all my unplaced stories along with word count/genre so I don't forget something.

It's also a very big week in terms of emotions. Friday is 5 years since I nearly lost my leg. That seems amazing.

Cancer is coming for another family member (which luckily is usually curable with surgery but still, fuck you cancer). Speaking of which I'm in the last days of my American Cancer Society read-a-thon charity drive. You can see more about it here.

As for Fannish 50 Tuesday it's THIS bullshit AGAIN. Creators being attacked, threatened, bullied. This past week, in a nutshell, Gooseworx, creator of The Amazing Digital Circus was in one of the livestream/video game plays this cast/creator loves to do and she mentions that Jax and Pomni are the main characters and people lost their fucking shit. They dragged her so hard over this, for daring to say who is the main character in this thing that they created but it didn't match their headcanons. She deleted the reddit account she used to interact with fans. A couple days later she apologized for not being professional in doing that.

I'm like maybe but I wouldn't say that. Why should you give fans access if they're going to be like this? And it's not just her. Vivzie who does Hazbin gets it like this all the time, Dana Terrace (the Owl House, Knights of Guinevere) does as well. Even Matt Braly (Amphibia) got slapped hard this past week. It culminated in Goose saying she doesn't want to touch her creation again once the last two episodes drop (something Dana Terrace did until this year, almost 4 years later with hers) and Glitch, the production company stepping in try to calm these people down.

If you're curious you can see Matt's thread here on twitter. What Glitch had to say is here.

1. We had burritos for dinner, along with a pineapple tamale we had gotten from the farmers market on Saturday but hadn't eaten yet, and the tamale was so good! It didn't have chunks of pineapple in it, but rather was solid masa that was flavored with pineapple. Definitely would get that again. (The burritos were very good, too, but I got the one I always get from there, so I already knew I would like it.)

2. They've released the menu for the Food and Wine Festival at DCA, which is starting next Friday. There's a lot of tasty looking stuff and we'll miss out on about two weeks of it because we'll be in Japan, so I'm glad we'll have plenty of opportunities to go in March and then once we're back from Japan can pick up any must-tries that we didn't get to yet.

3. Last nigh Chloe was all snuggled up on my bed when I wanted to go to sleep, and sadly not in any way that I could get in bed with her, so I just scooped her up, blankie and all, and set her down on my desk chair. She protested when I moved her, but seemed satisfied with the results. She stayed snuggled up on the chair for a couple hours anyway!

A year ago I was enjoying pictures of the kidlings, watching Unforgotten, trying Copilot for writing minutes, and prepping for Sunday. Which reminds me, I need to look at the reading for this Sunday...

I woke up at 2am and realised I wasn't getting back to sleep. It was 4ish when I finally drifted off. Which meant I struggled to get up and was running to catch myself all morning. I was convinced I had a workshop for the apprenticeship at 9.30am, so got myself out of the house before 9am. I thought my bag was a bit light but I put it down to taking salad to work instead of something hot in my food flask.

Get to work, put my bag on my chair... and realise the pocket where my laptop should be is empty. LM says, go back home and work from there. It's now 9.10am and I don't have time to get home for the workshop, so I go round the corner to the Helpdesk people and they lend me a laptop. They always have a stack on hand. Back at my desk I realise I didn't zip up the pocket on my bag with my purse in it! Thankfully, my purse was still in there.

After fighting with the display settings (because 'new' laptop), I'm finally ready for the workshop to start. As an aside, the colleague I usually end up asking for help with the screens offered to help but I was very pleased to be able to say I'd don't it all by myself! So, start the Teams meeting for the workshop and a message pops up - the host will let you in when the meeting starts. 10 minutes later, there's no sign of it starting. I try turning everything off and on again - still nothing. Try the link from Teams rather than Outlook... Still nothing.

Then I look at the actual meeting invite. It starts at 10am. *heavy sigh*

There was one good thing today - the evening safeguarding training session got cancelled, which made my evening much more relaxed than it would have been.

I collected my new coat on the way home. They didn't ask for ID or even the email confirming it had been delivered at the shop. I took my passport with me - one of the things that distracted me from my laptop!

Oh, and my new salad dressing recipe - olive oil, balsamic vinegar, Middle Eastern seasoning mix, Tabasco, and honey - is sooo tasty.

I've just caught up with The Rookie and now I'm heading for bed. Hopefully I'll sleep properly tonight!

It's at 2.30 for me, but my sleep schedule is kind of fucked atm anyways. If I watch this and then just get up early, there's a chance I can flip it.

+ Curious Travels Tarot arrived today, and I don't think I've ever handled a deck that felt this good. I'm astounded this is mass market, it's so buttery smooth but textured at the same time; a joy to hold. I just keep fondling the cards lol.

+ In other things that bring joy: I started watching Starfleet Academy and it is full of precious characters whose faces I'd like to smoosh and keep safe forever. A bit heavy on the For Teens stuff, and sadly one character has been heavily relegated to The Girl category which I am extremely bored by, but otherwise excellent faces and much invading of personal space yay.

Heated Rivalry is one of the most talked about recent shows of the past year. Are there lessons to be learned in how a story can draw in different demographics who wouldn’t normally have been interested in certain genres? Or as the article notes: “It turns policy into something you can explain to a child, not because you’re trying to teach them politics, but because you are invested in sharing the joy of the characters.”
